Givenchy wants you to be its next ASMR star

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Givenchy has launched a competition to find an ASMR star for its latest video campaign.

ASMR – autonomous sensory meridian response – is a physical sensation of tingling at the back of the head or spine, creating a sedative sensation that moves down the body.

The experience is triggered by a number of sounds including whispering, crackles, brushing sounds, eating and nails tapping on hard surfaces.

Since the term was coined in 2010, a nice internet community dedicated to the phenomenon has developed online. There are currently 6.4m posts tagged ASMR on Instagram and more than 13 million related videos on YouTube.

Now, its popularity has transitioned from the world of social media into fashion.

On the hunt for someone to voice its spring/summer 2019 campaign, French fashion brand Givenchy has launched a competition called “The Voiceover Challenge”, whereby people are encouraged to record an audition tape of their voice on the Givenchy website.

“Join the challenge, record your voice on our SS19 Video Campaign for a chance to be the next Givenchy voice and be posted on our official social media channels,” the website reads.

“Do what you want to do!”

The competition follows three instalments of the brand’s I Am Your Mirror video.

The first of which features a voice-over, followed by another featuring the iconic smoky voice of model Amanda Lear and a third using the model's voice alongside audio clips of metal stress balls - also known as Chinese Baoding balls - clinking together, zips unfastening and rubber stretching.

For your chance to be Givenchy’s next vocal star, dust off your microphone and click here to record a short audition tape over the brand’s latest video before the competition closes at midnight 7 April.

The winner will then be announced on 10 April.
