Games: Details competition no 428 by Tom Lubbock
Details 426 showed part of the walls of the Sala dei Giganti - the Room of the Giants - in the Palazzo del Te, Mantua, the palace of the Gonzaga Court, built and decorated by Giulio Romano, 1526-34. This chamber has an all-round, floor-to-ceiling, trompe l'oeil fresco illustrating the fall of the Titans - a stupendous, almost ludicrous spectacular, with its cast of lumbering muscle-men, halfway between Michelangelo and the Incredible Hulk, whose tumbling bodies are incorporated into an illusion of collapsing architecture and hurtling rocks. The painting was done by assistants, chiefly Rinaldo da Faenza, under Giulio's supervision; as usual, any answer on the right lines would do.
The three winners are: B Barnes, London SW8; P Cousins, St Helens; and M Rubens, Ipswich
