Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The new smartphone will be released next month, on 15 September, but it's already available for pre-order.
Samsung is selling it for £869 on its online store in the UK, and you can register your interest now.
Multiple mobile operators have also confirmed they're offering the handset, including EE, O2, Three, Sky Mobile and Vodafone.
Carphone Warehouse is selling the handset too, and has listed a huge number of different deals.
£56 per month gets you 20GB of data on O2, after a £59.99 upfront payment.
O2 is also offering the Note 8 with 5GB of data for £49 per month, after a £59.99 upfront fee.
On EE, £59 per month gets you 16GB of mobile data, after a £29.99 upfront payment.
On Vodafone, meanwhile, £56 per month gets you 16GB of data, after you've paid a £50 upfront fee.
If you don't want to pay an upfront fee, you don't need to. Carphone Warehouse also has a section for its cheapest Note 8 deals.
It's also offering a free Samsung DeX docking station worth £139.99 to anyone who pre-orders the Note 8 before 15 September.
EE, incidentally, has the same offer available to anyone who buys the Note 8 before 5pm on 14 September, and it's also hoping to tempt customers in with a a free six-month Apple Music subscription and free access to the BT Sport app. However, this only applies to 4GEE Max plans.
