From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bethesda has announced that Doom will undergo a series of closed alpha tests for its multiplayer component.

The developer was quick to stress these tests are neither betas nor gameplay demos, but stringent examinations of the game with limited functionality and equipment in a blog post.

“These are not Betas, nor are they game demos. Instead, these are a series of closed tests with limited functionality – in the case of tomorrow's Closed Alpha, one map, one mode, and a partial selection of weapons and equipment – with the goal of banging on a bunch of back-end functionality in a real-world setting.”

There are a different ways in which fans can gain access to the alpha, depending on which platform they wish to play on, and Bethesda released an infographic detailing how to get in to the alpha:

A trailer including multiplayer gameplay footage was also released:

The first multiplayer alpha begins tomorrow at 12:01 ET (5:01pm UK time) and will run until Sunday. Participants will be able to experience 6-versus-6 Team Deathmatch on the Heatwave map, with six weapons and two pieces of equipment available. Four special power-ups will also appear in the map, including Invisibility and Quad Damage.

Doom launches in Spring 2016 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
