Apple is holding a major launch event as new Macs and other products are expected.

The company revealed no details about what would be announced at the “special Apple event” from its Apple Park campus.

It only included the title “One more thing”. That is both a reference to Steve Jobs’ famous remark at the end of multiple Apple keynotes, but also to the many events Apple has held towards the end of this year: September, October and November have now all had their own launch events.

The event will be held on 10 November, at 10am local pacific time. It will be live-streamed on Apple’s website, as well as presumably on other platforms such as YouTube.

While other products have been rumoured to launch at the event, the headline announcement is likely to be new Macs using new Apple Silicon chips. Apple announced in June that it would start designing its own chips for its computers, and promised that the first of them would arrive before the end of the year – given the company is unlikely to hold any more events in 2020, this would presumably be their last chance to show them off.

It is still unclear what that first computer could look like, or how many new Macs might be announced this year. Rumours have suggested that it may be a new MacBook Air or a revived version of the 12-inch MacBook that was killed off last summer, though it could also be a much larger iMac or something else entirely.

It could take two years for the entire line to be transitioned to Apple’s own silicon, it said at its announcement in June, and it will still sell new computers with Intel chips in the meantime.

The company has said that the new chips would allow the computers to be more powerful and more efficient. It will also allow for apps that run on both the Mac and portable devices such as the iPhone and iPad, which already use Apple’s own chips.

A feature hidden away in the invitation to the event sent out to media and analysts allowed users to open it in augmented reality. If they did, it showed an Apple logo that looked something like a MacBook – seemingly confirming that new laptops are coming at the event.

Away from Apple’s computers, a number of rumours have suggested it is preparing other products that could arrive alongside updated Macs. Those include the "AirPods Studio" – a version of Apple’s earphones that put the same technology into an over-ear headphone design – as well as the long-running rumour that Apple is working on “AirTags” that can be attached to other objects to allow phones to find them.

The event comes in the middle of the release of the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, which both open for pre-orders on 6 November and go on sale on 13 November. They were revealed last last month’s “Hi, Speed” event but have been unavailable to buy amid an unusually delayed rollout of the new phones.

It will also come on the first day that the new Xbox Series X and Series S are available.
