Frances Bean Cobain and her husband, pro skateboarder Riley Hawk, have welcomed their first child together.

Frances, the daughter of rock singer Courtney Love and the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, announced online on Saturday (28 September) that she and Hawk – the son of the famous skateboarder Tony Hawk – had welcomed a baby boy named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk.

The 32-year-old new mother revealed that the baby had been born on 17 September, writing online: “Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.”

In the series of black-and-white photos shared online by Frances, the newborn is seen holding onto his mother’s hand, while another shows Hawk embracing his son. Another picture shows the baby wrapped in a blanket with his eyes closed.

Frances then re-shared the pictures and added the song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” by John Lennon.

The couple have been met with well-wishes from many of their famous friends and family members online, with the child’s new grandpa, the skateboarding legend Tony Hawk writing: “My favourite grandson!”

Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor Robin Williams, added: “Ahhhh! Congrats!!!!”

Harper Grohl, the daughter of Kurt’s former Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl, simply shared teary-eyed and love-heart emojis.

Frances first revealed her romance with Hawk in 2022 when she returned to Instagram after a year-long break to share pictures of him sitting next to a Christmas tree and smiling at the camera while holding a small dog. Another photograph showed the couple on holiday with Tony Hawk and his wife Catherine Goodman.

“I wanted to share a few moments that were captured/created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy,” Cobain wrote in the caption at the time.

“2021 brought me more into the present moment than I’ve ever been, which I’m deeply grateful for Here’s to hoping everyone’s 2022 is filled with authentic connections, a lot of warmth and profound discovery of self.”

Confirming their relationship, Riley commented: “Happy new year my love!”

At the time, fans of Tony and Kurt praised the coupling, with one person writing online: “If they had a child, their grandparents would be two of the largest icons from the Nineties. Insane.”

“Daughter of the most Nineties dude ever is dating the son of the second most Nineties dude ever,” another person said.

The pair married in October 2023 in an intimate, Victorian-themed ceremony officiated by REM frontman Michael Stipe, Frances’s godfather.

Frances was previously married to musician Isaiah Silva. She filed for divorce from the singer in March 2016, less than two years after the pair wed in June 2014.
