Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

De Bortoli Daydream Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, 2015
A really succulent, easily accessible pinot, showing a lightness of touch not always apparent from the land of the big and ballsy shiraz. Fragrant cherry aromas on the nose, with lots of fresh bright fruit flavours and just enough of a mellow undertone. Good for most dishes with a tomato base, but also, lightly chilled, with cod or salmon steaks.

Barbera D’Asti 2014
A much lighter barbera d’Asti than the one recommended in this column a couple of weeks ago, this still has the same moreish fruit and nut chocolate flavours, with some sweetish tannins and a lingering finish. A far more interesting and alluring wine than the rather boring label might suggest – and ideal with a midweek pizza.

Avaniel Tempranillo, Ribera Del Duero, 2015
A lovely, young, unoaked tempranillo with masses of dark cherry and brambly flavours and just a mere hint of herbs and spice, shot through with a pleasant freshness giving it loads of addictive character for the price. A terrific all-purpose wine, with or without food.
