From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wagamama has launched a new vegan menu featuring 29 plant-based dishes.

In response to growing demand from vegans and vegetarians, the new concoctions have been created by executive chef Steve Mangleshot.

There are 11 vegan dishes on the new menu, and the rest are vegetarian. All have been inspired by different areas of Asia.

Amongst the vegan dishes is a newly crafted kare burosu ramen consisting of vitamin-rich vegetables and udon noodles in a curried broth, accompanied by shichimi coated silken tofu, a kick of chilli and a fresh coriander garnish.

There’s also the yasai itame: rice noodles in a spicy green coconut and lemongrass soup topped with tofu and vegetables, stir-fried beansprouts, red and spring onions, bok choi, peppers, mushrooms and chillies, garnished with coriander and lime.

Non-veggie favourites, pad thai and yaki soba, have also both been given vegan makeovers.

And the yasai samla curry - a fragrant, spicy lemongrass and coconut curry with tofu, peppers, shiitake mushrooms and baby plum tomatoes. served with white rice and garnished with spring onions, chilli and coriander - was this year awarded “best curry” In PETA’s Food Awards.

Sadly the vegan menu is somewhat lacking in the pudding department, with just two sorbets on offer: pink guava and passionfruit, or lemon and lime.

Wagamama’s Customer Director Emma Woods says: “When talking to vegan customers, what they want the most, is inclusion. That is the same with our vegetarian fans.

“Our first ever dedicated vegan and vegetarian menu can be the starting point to support a vegan lifestyle choice. From its October launch, we will be listening to our fans to make sure we are constantly adapting and innovating to meet customer desires and a modern lifestyle.”

The number of vegans in the UK is rising and has grown 350 per cent over the past ten years
