From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Aspen Cline is a teenager from Mayer, Arizona who loves to ride her horse, Scout.
As a birthday treat, Aspen and a friend decided that they wanted to take their horses to a Starbucks drive-thru to indulge in some tasty beverages.
However, the barista at the drive-thru refused to serve the girls or their horses.
“We attempted to take them through the Starbucks drive-thru, didn’t exactly go as planned,” Aspen told ABC 15.
“We weren’t given any reason, just we can’t take your order. Me and my friend were going to get Frappuccinos for us and a cup of whipped cream for the horses.”
There are a number of videos of people riding their horses through Starbucks drive-thrus on YouTube, with one video garnering 185,000 views.
The attempted drive-thru venture was for Aspen’s birthday, as her mother Tandy Cline explained.
“She didn’t ask for money, she didn’t ask for games, she just simply wanted to go to the lake and go to Starbucks,” Tandy said.
“It’s her favourite place and so we figured out how to make it happen for her and we see it happening with other places, with other people.”
While a number of individuals have successfully ridden their horses through Starbucks drive-thrus in the past, a spokesperson from Starbucks informed the news station that their drive-thrus are strictly for cars only.
However, if the branch of Starbucks had been given advance notice, then they would have admitted Aspen and her friend with their horses in tow.
“We support Starbucks because they’re very accepting,” Tandy said.
“So we were kind of disappointed we got thrown to the side from such a great company."
