From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The creamy drink consists of Frappuccino Crème infused with flavours of tart apple and caramel, topped with pink whipped cream “brains” and red mocha drizzle.
“When brainstorming a new Frappuccino flavour for this Halloween, we started by thinking about a Halloween party and monster mash,” said Jennica Robinson from Starbucks beverage development team.
“We had already invited Frankenstein and vampires to the party, so we came up with another monster that could join the bash.”
For the flavour, Robinson returned to the monster party theme.
“We thought about what you’d serve at a Halloween party, and we settled on dipped caramel apples,” she said. “It has a tart green apple flavour balanced with a smooth, sweet caramel.”
The drink is available from October 26-31, but sadly for British Starbucks fanatics, it’s only on sale in the US and Canada.
UK Halloween aficionados, however, have their own supposedly spooky drink to enjoy: the Vampire Frappuccino.
A chocolate cream Frappuccino blended with strawberry sauce and topped with whipped cream, the flavours aren’t particularly Halloweeny, however it’s been designed so that the strawberry sauce looks like blood.
Must be most appealing to the vampires amongst us.
As is often the case with Starbucks’ novelty drinks, there’s been much excitement about the new launches.
However, opinions is divided as to whether they taste as good as they look.
But all agree the drinks taste better than you’d imagine blended vampires and zombies would.
