From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Today’s the day. The iconic drink of autumn, the milky beverage we’ve all been waiting for, the hug in a mug that symbolises the start of the best season of all is back.

All hail the return of Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte.

If you’re craving that sweet pumpkin spiced goodness but aren’t quite ready for a rich, hot drink, then fear not: you just need to get the pumpkin cheesecake frappuccino instead.

The frappuccino is a secret Starbucks item, meaning it’s not technically on the menu and you’ll need to ask baristas for exactly what you want.

What you need to order is a creme-based Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino with a pump of Cinnamon Dolce syrup, a scoop of vanilla bean powder and a pump of white mocha sauce, according to Delish.

Or if you want a slightly lighter option, ask for a vanilla bean Frappuccino with two pumps of pumpkin sauce.

It’s decadent and sweet, whilst being creamy and refreshing, not forgetting that hint of autumnal spice.

Of course, there are various secret drinks you can ask for at Starbucks with pumpkin flavour - try a pumpkin chai (a chai latte with whipped cream, pumpkin spice topping and sea salt topping), an autumnal iced tea (a Teavana shaken iced black tea with coconut milk instead of water, two pumps of pumpkin spice syrup, two pumps of cinnamon dolce syrup, and one dried orange slice) or a pumpkin spice hot chocolate (simply hot chocolate with two pumps of pumpkin spice syrup).

The PSL has become associated with “basic” millennial women, who Instagram their Starbucks and savour every sip of pumpkin spice goodness.

Such a big deal is the PSL now that there’s even a countdown website, much like many people peruse in the run up to Christmas.

“Is it pumpkin spice season?” the website asks. And now the screen responds with a triumphant “YASSS!” - the basic girl’s enthusiastic answer of choice.

And people are loving the pumpkin frappuccinos as much as the lattes.

Forget Christmas, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.
