OpenTable, a global online reservation site, announced the launch of its new free iPad application on June 15.
Almost a month after competitor Urban Spoon, which offers restuarant information for North America, the UK and Australia via their website and iPhone application, created their slot machine-styled iPad app, OpenTable is striking back to prevent more encroachment into their niche business of real-time online reservations.
OpenTable has long dominated the efficient, simple process of booking hassle-free tables online at just about any kind of restaurant throughout North America and select places in the UK, Dubai, Singapore and other locales.
Crowd-sourcing dinning guides like Yelp and Zagat direct all reservations through OpenTable, so you now have the option to jump from the Zagat To Go (€7.99) iPad app to Open Table's without being directed to a web browser in between.
