Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. We served this recently for a Mario Testino party and it went down a treat. I'm planning to serve it before lunch on Christmas Day. The grown ups can have the real thing, while kids and drivers have a non-alcoholic version made with lemonade or fizzy elderflower.
1 bottle of champagne
4 clementines, peeled, blended and strained
1 clementine, segmented and the skin taken off the segments
2 tbsp of orange liqueur like Grand Marnier or Cointreau
1/2tsp ground cinnamon
1 long cinnamon stick
Put the clementine segments in a bowl with the orange liqueur and cinnamon, stir well and leave for an hour or so.
To serve, break the cinnamon stick into 6-8 long lengths with a knife and skewer a clementine segment on the end of each piece so you have one for each glass. Put about a tablespoon of the clementine juice into each champagne glass and carefully top up with champagne, stirring it as it tends to fizz up and will end up all over the table if you're not careful. Put a clementine and cinnamon stick in each and serve.
