The gooey sweet was first removed in 2016, but food giant Nestle, which owns Quality Street, decided to reintroduce the chocolate shortly after in light of a social media backlash fuelled by devoted Toffee Deluxe fans who demanded its return.
Now, it looks like their wish was short-lived, as the Toffee Deluxe has officially been replaced by a new limited-edition flavour, the Chocolate Caramel Brownie.
The new sweet consists of a milk chocolate shell with chocolate-flavoured caramel inside.
A spokesperson for Nestle said that the Chocolate Caramel Brownie will be around for a limited period of time only, and did not rule out the possibility of the return of the Toffee Deluxe, which was one of the original flavours when the Quality Street brand launched in 1936.
The spokesperson also suggested that 2016’s removal might’ve been a publicity stunt.
“Well, we know we got your attention the last time we dropped the Toffee Deluxe so couldn’t resist trying it again,” they said.
“But seriously, everybody’s got a favourite Quality Street and the assortment has changed a lot over the years. Every now and then we like to introduce new exciting flavours to the mix and are certain that our delicious chocolate caramel brownie will be a hit for 2019.”
The new assortment of sweets are already available in some retailers.
