From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas (some would say).

While the country continues trying to learn how to cope in the exhaustive heat of summer, fans of the upcoming festive period may be excited to learn that Quality Street is going to be launching pick ‘n’ mix stations around the country in time for the Yuletide.

There’ll be no more need to fight with your family over the last ‘green triangle’ or ‘caramel swirl’, as you’ll be able to fill your tin to the brim with all of your favourite chocolatey delights.

The confectionery company has partnered with John Lewis and will be launching pick ‘n’ mix stations around the country at selected John Lewis stores.

The station at the flagship store on Oxford Street will also feature the opportunity to personalise your tin with a specific street name on the front.

The tin that will be provided at the pick ‘n’ mix stations is an exclusive collector’s tin that will only be available to purchase at John Lewis.

Many people on social media have been expressing their delight over the news.

“ALL THE TRIANGLES IN THE WORLD”, one person tweeted, while another wrote: “Right up my street.”

However, others aren't pleased with the price of the 1.2kg tins, which will cost £12 each, as revealed to The Independent by John Lewis.

Personalised tins will cost even more, reaching a price of £15 for the combination of a personalised tin and a mixed selection of chocolates.

Further details about the stations will be announced in the lead up to Christmas, with the stations being opened from September at several John Lewis stores.

In January this year, shoppers flocked to Tesco when they discovered that the price of Quality Street tins had been slashed from £6 to £1.25.

A study conducted by CDA Kitchen Appliances in December 2017 stated that the nation’s favourite Quality Street chocolate was the ‘purple one’, a milk chocolate treat filled with hazelnut and caramel.

The poll revealed that the ‘green triangle’ came in second place, with the ‘toffee finger’ coming in third.
