Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Forget singing for your supper, now you can gamble for your dinner. This week PokerStars launched the world’s first ‘‘Pay-By-Poker’’ restaurant, where the price of your meal is determined by your success at the poker table.

All-In Kitchen will open its doors to poker-lovers from 19 to 21 January at Jones & Sons restaurant in Haggerston to celebrate the start of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT).

Ordinarily, an All-In Kitchen meal would cost over £50 per head, but ‘‘Pay-By-Poker’’ diners will play three hands of poker to win chips to pay for their meals. Poker aces, who win 10,000 chips or more on the tables, will get their dinners on the house.

Diners will be able to choose from a gourmet poker-inspired menu that includes ‘Royal Flush of King Crab Thermidor’ and ‘2 Pair of Pear Tarte Tatin’.

Andy Jones, founder of Jones & Sons, said: "I love food and never shy away from the tables when I get the chance, so having the opportunity to create a menu that combines two of my favourite things was something I jumped at.

‘‘Embracing Poker within the dishes was a lot of fun. I can't wait to see the results and serve up some Aces."

All-In Kitchen joins the ranks of quirky restaurants that have popped up in the capital in recent months, including the Cereal Café in Shoreditch.

The UKIPT, the nation’s biggest poker tournament, will commence at The Hippodrome Casino London, before moving on to further poker destinations across the UK and Ireland including Bristol and Edinburgh.

There are plans to roll out the ‘‘Pay-By-Poker’’ experience at every stop of the tour.
