Best restaurant UK: Midsummer House beats Le Gavroche and The Fat Duck in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards

Great British Menu star Daniel Clifford has topped the bill in a top ten list compiled for TripAdvisor’s “Travellers’ Choice Awards” for fine dining.

The poll, based on millions of reviews and opinions left on the travel site, declared Clifford’s restaurant Midsummer House in Cambridge the favourite destination for fine dining. Midsummer House also came second place in world and European rankings, also compiled by TripAdvisor, behind Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca in Girona.

On winning the award, the two Michelin star chef said: “The fact that these awards are based on customer feedback makes us so happy, as we stride to make our Cambridge restaurant the best experience for all of our diners.”

Comparing the sample menu costs of the top 10, Midsummer House also came out as the second cheapest, behind Adam’s in Birmingham.

Also featured highly in the top ten list were Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir Aux Qaut’Saisons, and Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche.

Prolific TV chef Gordon Ramsey was featured in seventh place, for his Hospital Road restaurant, whereas Heston Blumenthal came in tenth.

The Fat Duck was previously voted ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ in 2005, but the restaurant was temporarily closed in 2009 after a after a food poisoning scare.
