From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Covent Garden café Dishoom has ranked first place in Yelp’s Top 100 places to eat in the UK list.

Described as a “hidden gem”, the Bombay-style café offers Indian dishes with a twist, and beat restaurants run by celebrities Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal to the champion position.

The list is ranked based on reviews left by members of the public. One reviewer on the website said he and his wife “were in heaven”, whilst another said they were “totally blown away” and that “the whole experience was fantastic”. The restaurant has a four out of five star rating averaged across 370 reviews. The list places more weight on the most recent reviews to ensure a more up-to-date analysis.

Prices start from around £7.50 for Chicken Tikka, plus £2.20 for Basmati rice. Their signature dish, Black Daal, costs just £4.90 and is cooked for 24 hours. The breakfast bacon naan roll, £5.20, was also voted the third best dish in London by Timeout in 2014.

Last year’s winner, Regency Cafe, where you can get a full English breakfast for £5.50, was pushed into 2nd place, and the pricier Dinner by Heston Blumenthal took 3rd position, where the cheapest main course is the Braised Celery, at £28.00. Meanwhile, Michelin-starred restaurant Gordon Ramsay didn’t even rank in the top ten, instead taking 12th place, and L’Atelier De Joël Robuchon sat at 19th. Another of Blumenthal’s restaurants, The Fat Duck in Bray, ranked at 37th place.

“We couldn't be more delighted to hear this news. We feel privileged just to be able to be able to serve the guests who come through our doors for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and perhaps share a little bit of our love for Bombay food and culture with them,” said one of the four founders, Shamil Thakrar.

"We're truly blown away that so many people have chosen to share their opinions of us online to help us reach the top spot".

The restaurant opened in 2010, and blends Indian dishes with British twists. One of three, the restaurant can also be found in King’s Cross and Shoreditch.

Eight of the top ten places to eat are in London, including Homeslice Pizza, Barrafina, and Patty and Bun. The full list includes a number of low-budget eateries such as greasy spoons, and a fish and chip shop.
