From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The day-long Dessert Goals festival on 23 October will feature treats from across all five of New York City’s boroughs.
Vendors at the event include Macaron Parlour - whose sweet creations include the poo emoji and cartoon cat Pusheen – and Wowfulls with their Gai Dàn Jai Hong Kong egg waffles topped with icecream and fruit.
Mini Melanie, who specialse in multi-coloured gemstone truffles and miniature cakes, cookie dough parlour Cookie Do, and purveyors of artisanal Twinkie-inspired “Cakies” Jae NYC will also be showing at Dessert Goals.
Bubble tea from the Boba Guys, dragonfruit bowls from Baba Cool, ice cream sandwiches from Melt Bakery, mochi by Mochidoki, gormet rice pudding from the Rice Cream Shoppe, sweet and savoury treats by Doughnut Plant, Bittles cake pops, and ice cream by Noona's can be enjoyed by ticketholders, too.
Unsurprisingly, tickets for the painfully trendy event in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, have sold out.
Passholders will have access to tastings, workshops, and a rooftop lounge with skyline views across Manhattan. And a photo garden dedicated specifically to your Instagramming needs, of course.
Friends and New Yorkers Miraya Berke and Liang Shi put together Dessert Goals, which they believe is a first for the cosmopolitan city, “on a hot summer day over shaved snow.”
“Round up the #DessertSquad and bring your stretchy pants,” warns the website: “This is going to be the ultimate cheat day of the year.”
