From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chan Hon Meng, the world’s first Michelin-star street chef, is bringing his delicious cooking to the capital for a limited time only.
The acclaimed chef, otherwise known as Hawker Chan, will be flying from Singapore to serve up his signature “soya sauce chicken rice” box at KERB King’s Cross market.
For a Michelin-star chef, the dish that is going to be on offer at the market is delightfully affordable.
At £6 a box, Londoners will be bagging themselves a bargain with this tasty lunchtime meal.
However, you’ll have to head to the market fast if you want to get your hands on one.
There will only be 200 portions available per day from 12 until two in the afternoon from Wednesday until Friday this week.
Chan has led an incredible life, growing up on a farm and leaving school at 15 to pursue his aspiration of becoming a chef.
In 2016, he became the first street food chef in the world to achieve a Michelin star.
“It’s an honour to host the world’s first Michelin star street food trader at King’s Cross,” said Ian Dodds, head of KERB Markets.
“We also hope this builds a wider conversation about the growing quality of street food in London - as it becomes more and more a part of life throughout the city we see no reason why one or two in London’s swelling hawker ranks couldn’t received the same accolade.”
Chan is the chef and owner of Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle, a stall situated in Chinatown in Singapore.
The stall in King’s Cross has been designed to emulate the original in Singapore.
People who head to the market this week will also have the opportunity to take part in a competition, which could see them win the chance to visit the original stall in Singapore courtesy of Singapore Airlines.
