McDonald's workers claim they trick customers into getting fewer fries

McDonald’s has quashed an internet rumour that the fast food restaurant’s employees regularly use a trick to ensure customers receive fewer fries.

In a discussion on Reddit entitled “What did your job ask you to hide from customers?”, people who claim to work for McDonald’s have said they have a sneaky way of giving people fewer chips.

One person wrote: “I worked at McDonald’s and they taught me how to pinch the fry carton just right while putting the fries into them so that it looked full, but actually wasn’t.”

They explained that only one customer ever noticed the trick: “He shook the fries out into his bag and poured them back into the fry carton himself and it only filled up halfway, so I had to give him more fries.”

And they weren’t the only person familiar with the trick.

“I f***ing hated that practice and basically refused to do it,” one person commented.

“Never got fired, but managed to have a few customers ask me when my shifts were the next week so they could have me filling their fries.”

Another person in the discussion revealed how they would actively make an effort to overfill fry boxes, “fill drinks properly to the top instead of just what the machine automatically dispenses, and I’d always give extra flurry toppings to nice customers and little kids.”

McDonald’s however, have refuted the claims made by the former employees.

“We believe these claims to be fictional, there are no ‘secret tricks’ and we have strict operational procedures in place to ensure that fry portions are not under-filled,” a spokesperson said.

“Without a verified source we are unable to investigate this further.

“Our employees work hard to ensure our customers have the best experience possible in our restaurants, and we strongly refute any claims that suggest otherwise.”
