From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A UK gin business is on the hunt for people to taste test their new flavours.

The Local Gin Company has posted a job advert on its website for tasters in England to help select gins for its premium subscription boxes.

The advert asks that candidates are over 18, “enjoy drinking gin served with tonic” and can “provide honest feedback” to its gin selection team. When it comes equipment, all you need are a glass, ice and tonic, while the Local Gin Company will provide the gin.

If selected for the panel of expert tasters, applicants will get to be among the first to sample a range of premium dry and pink gins made in the UK.

The spirits which pass the taste test will be included in the Local Gin Company’s subscription packs, which cost £40.

The company is looking for two gin tasters from each of the eight regions it currently operates in: London, the South West, the South East, the Midlands, the East of England, the North West, the North East, and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Set to start in 2021, the job will be a regular role and, while it is not a paid position, there is plenty of gin in it for the successful applicants.

“Our mission is to help people discover amazing gin being produced on their doorstep – and who better to decide whether gins make it into our boxes than the local gin community themselves?” said Madelaine Power, founder of the Local Gin Company.

The role has already received a lot of interest on social media. On an Instagram post advertising the position, one person commented: “Me me! Tagging myself as my mission in life is to taste every single gin ever made.”

Another added: “Applied for this - it would be a dream!!!” while a third person wrote: “We were made for this job... this is our calling.”

The deadline for applications is 31 December and you can apply here.
