From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s what wine-drinking Hello Kitty fans have been waiting for all year long.

Branded bottles of alcohol adorned with everyone’s favourite cartoon cat have launched online and in select US supermarkets just in time for the holiday season.

The target market might be niche, but the kitschy bottles are already proving to be a huge hit on social media.

“Hello Kitty is a global pop icon with fans of all ages and an ever-growing selection of lifestyle products,” the range’s website reads.

“Now you can find her on a new range of exclusive wines for around the world! Bold and iconic, cute and chic, Hello Kitty’s essence is celebrated with this sophisticated collection produced by Torti “L’Eleganza del Vino” Wines."

According to Patrizia Torti, whose family run the winery that made the wine, the bottles have been close to 10 years in the making.

“We produce a special bottle with a heart, only for Hello Kitty,” she told the Los Angeles Times.

Fans of the beloved Japanese cartoon can take their pick from a wide range of wines, each of which come in a uniquely-designed bottle.

There’s the standard trio: pinot noir, pinot nero vinified in white and of course, rosé.

Meanwhile, for the more adventurous wine-drinkers with a penchant for all things miniature, there’s the 375ml bottle of sweet pink sparkling wine, which comes complete with a love heart-shaped embellishment on the bottle neck.

There’s also a special edition rosé which comes in a reflective fuchsia bottle which a diamanté-encrusted bottle top that is sure to attract some attention at the Christmas lunch table.

The bottles range in price from $24.50 (£18) to $29.95 (£22.40) per bottle.

However, for those who are particularly excited about the range and simply can’t choose just one, you can purchase the entire collection of 750ml bottles (plus the mini sparkling rose) for $147.30 (£110).
