From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Now, Gwyneth Paltrow’s former personal chef, Kate McAloon, has revealed the extreme lengths that the actress and Goop founder goes to in order to maintain her lean figure and health.
McAloon was employed by Paltrow and her then husband Chris Martin in 2008, whilst she was filming the first Iron Man.
When she was given a dietary requirements brief from the couple’s assistant, the celebrity chef was shocked.
“They eat nothing, they are very strict,” she said to News.au.
“They avoided any sugars, anything sweet, no dairy, just more vegetables.”
McAloon struggled to work with their restrictions, explaining that she ended up resorting to ingredients from the banned list in order to create fuller flavours.
As soon as she started doing this, the celebrity couple praised her and told her that her food was getting better.
“That’s what happens when you eat more than grass,” she said.
McAloon, 59, has cooked for a slew of famous faces, including Miranda Kerr, Steven Spielberg and Courtney Cox.
She called Miranda “great” to work for, revealing that she really does eat the way she says that she does.
McAloon worked for her when she was still married to Orlando Bloom and explained that the genetically-blessed duo had a penchant for curries and chia pudding.
She praised Spielberg for his “excellent” kitchen and explained how forgiving the couple were when she accidentally knocked a piece off their luxurious counter top.
The chef got her big break when TV stars Nick Offerman and wife Megan Mullally accidentally became clients of hers in Hawaii.
News of her culinary skills then spread amongst the celebrity set, and before long McAloon found herself with a whole host of famous clients, some hungrier than others.
