Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Imagine waking up to a day of endless Fairtrade ice cream… plus, unlimited chunks and swirls.
The annual tradition will see free scoops of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, offered to fans up and down the UK.
Ben & Jerry’s first Free Cone Day was 40 years ago… way back in 1979 and was the founders’ way of thanking their ice cream loving community for helping them get through their first year.
These days Ben & Jerry’s hands out more than one million free scoops of Fairtrade ice cream across the world each April.
Flavour fans can choose between classics such as Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie or old favourites like Cherry Garcia.
Plus, for the first time this year, non-dairy fans can join in the party too, with scoops of its hugely popular Non-Dairy range available in Ben & Jerry’s Soho Scoop Shop on London’s Wardour Street.
“We believe in having fun, and in thanking our fans with free ice cream as each year goes by”, said the company’s CEO Jostein Solheim.
“To us it’s a chance to have a bit of a party, to build connections with our fans, and show them how much we appreciate them,” he added.
Ben & Jerry’s annual Free Cone Day will be celebrated up and down the country at Empire Cinemas, Showcase Cinemas, Vue Cinema (West End only) and Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop in Wardour Street, Soho. Visit their website to see a full list of participating scoop shops.
