From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Tuesday, the fast-food burger chain announced it would be opening a select number of restaurants to provide customers with food that they can order via the Five Guys app, or by visiting the restaurant’s website.
Customers can also order on Deliveroo.
The click and collect service ensures that people can receive their food while maintaining social distancing rules as imposed by the government.
Five Guys has also said that its entire menu will be available to customers using its delivery or collection services.
The classic Five Guys menu offers 250,000 possible combinations of burgers in addition to 1,000 ways of customising a milkshake.
The stores that have opened are: London’s St Paul’s and Baker Street, Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird and Fountain Park, Plymouth, Liverpool Queen Square, and Guildford.
John Eckbert, CEO of Five Guys UK, said: “We have adopted a phased approach to reopening Five Guys stores, adhering to government advice and ensuring the safety of our customers and crew is paramount.
“To date a small number of stores have remained open for Click and Collect and Deliveroo orders only and while this has been in operation, we’re proud of how our crew members have supported local hospitals and key front line workers across the UK.”
The news that Five Guys will be reopening stores for delivery and collection follows on from several other restaurants doing the same, including Pret a Manger, Burger King and KFC.
