Wines of the week: Three fine bottles to accompany a barbecue
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Marques Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Ripe, cedary and softly full bodied, but with underlying flavours of tar and leather and a long satisfying, chewy finish, this is a very fine, serious Chilean take on classic Bordeaux. Chargrilled organic steaks or a butterfly leg of lamb would be a terrific match. £11.28, thedrinkshop.com; £11.95, winedirect.co.uk
A white
Yealands Estate Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2013 English asparagus is wonderful just grilled on a barbecue. This Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc, from a company recently honoured for its green credentials, is full of grassy gooseberry zestiness underpinned with tropical fruits. Also good with griddled fish. £14.95, greatwesternwine.co.uk
A rosé
M de Minuty Côtes de Provence 2013 Some large prawns, or even a half lobster on the barbie, with some garlicky aoli, demands a nice iced rosé from Provence. Made with Grenache, Cinsault and the local Tibouren grapes, this is pale pink, with herbal and red-fruit flavours cut through with a thrilling acidity. Subtle and refined. £9.95 (normally £12.75), robersonwine.com; £9.99 (each, as part of mixed six-bottle purchase; normally £14.99; until 2 June ), Majestic
