Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Príncipe de Viana Edicion Limitada 2010/11

A lip-smacking, oak-aged, limited-edition red, blending Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Navarra. Elegantly structured, smooth and rounded, very satisfying. Perfect for lighter autumnal game such as pheasant or roast chicken. £10.99, directwineshipments.com

Midweek meal

Quinta Nova Pomares Branco 2014

Lovely, modern, fresh white from the Douro made using indigenous Viosinho, Gouveio and Rabigato grapes, vividly demonstrating how the region has moved on from its dependence on port. Green apples and mixed citrus fruit flavours dominate, with a crisp finish. Goes with shellfish pasta dishes but also, naturally, grilled sardines. £8.25, thewinesociety.com; £9.95, tanners-wines.co.uk

Bargain basement

Château Mukhrani Saperavi 2013

Warming, rustic, boisterous red from Georgia. The local Saperavi grape delivers an intense, inky-black wine, with flavours of black berries, dark plums and a hint of sweet spice and tar. Will work well with any similarly full-bodied casseroles or steak and chips. £7.50 (until 2 November; normally £9.50), Marks & Spencer
