Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Saint Aubin Rouge Premier Cru Sentier du Clou, Domaine Henri Prudhon, 2007
Three bargains to be snapped up in the January sales and the first is a rarity on two fronts: good affordable Burgundy from a company which is pegging or reducing prices across the board this year. This is a medium-bodied, slightly perfumed, well-structured wine that exhibits all the sophistication and restraint to be expected from a respected producer. Buy at the offer price before the end of the month, but save for drinking until spring. £12.95 (normally £14.95; until Tuesday), thewinesociety.com

Rioja Reserva Dos Maderas, Beronia, 2006
There is a lot of average discounted Rioja around, but this is one of the best: complex, elegant and satisfying. From the Rioja Alta, it is aged in barrels made from American and French oak, resulting in cinnamon and clove aromas, intense flavours of sweet fruits, touches of leather and tobacco and a lovely, smooth mouthfeel. £9.99 (each for two if bought as part of a minimum six-bottle purchase; reduced from £13.99), majestic.co.uk

Nero D'Avola Corte Ibla Sicilia, 2007
Nip to M&S today and you should still find a bottle or two of this on discount. Full-bodied and rich, with powerful flavours of autumn fruits and liquorice that showcase both Sicily's native grape and the increasing sophistication of the island's wine-making. Great with any robust Italian foods, such as baked pasta or a meaty casserole. £9.99 (normally £11.99; offer ends today), M&S
