Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon 2013

Aged semillons from the Hunter Valley in New South Wales are renowned for their honeyed, luscious longevity, but this youngster is fresh and bright, with clear, light citrusy flavours of lemon and pink grapefruit. Drink with all white fish, but also good with lightly spiced Thai food. £13.99, slurp.co.uk

Midweek meal

Savoie Blanc 'Coeur Terroir' 2014

An unusual white from the Savoie region in eastern France, made from the rare local Jacquère, Chasselas and Altesse grapes. As delicate as an Alpine flower and as fresh and flinty as a mountain stream, this is a perfect summer white. Pair with goat's cheese, salads and shellfish. £9, Marks & Spencer

Bargain basement

Cazas Novas Avesso Vinho Verde 2014

Lacking the distinctive spritz of most vinho verde, this is from the Minho region and more conventionally structured: stone fruits, refreshing, zesty and uncomplicated. A lovely wine for summer garden gatherings. £6.95, thewinesociety.com
