Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cantele Primitivo IGT Salento 2012
A luscious, velvety Primitivo from Puglia in the heel of Italy. Bursting with enticing flavours of raspberrys, mulberrys and plums, there is more than enough body to partner lighter roast meats, but an appealing freshness that would match simpler pasta dishes or even a baked fish. £11.50, tanners-wines.co.uk
Midweek meal
Edalo Rosado, Condado de Huelva 2014
Usually by this Bank Holiday there ought to be one evening warm enough for a palate-tingling, ice-cold rosé. Made from Syrah grapes grown close to the Atlantic coast of southern Spain, the light colour here contrasts with fulsome, bright-red fruit flavours and a touch of spice. Perfect with most Mediterranean dishes. £9.95, kwmwine.com
Bargain basement
Hartley's Block Sauvignon Blanc 2014
An excellent bargain that could not be squeezed into the Sauvignon Blanc column of a couple of weeks ago. Classical vibrant acidity, green herbal flavours, shot through with lime and grapefruit. And just right for a plate of asparagus, grilled on the weekend's barbecue. £7.85 (until 2 June; normally £10.49), Waitrose, waitrosecellar.com
