Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Gris

One of the pioneers of Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc is now winning awards for its reinvention of this related grape, an altogether different proposition. Yes, there are fresh tropical fruit and citrus flavours, but also richer, smokier notes and a long finish. Beguiling and different. Try with oily fish – grilled mackerel or rare tuna. £10.49, ocado.com, Tesco

Midweek meal

Altano Douro Quinta Do Ataide 2012

From vineyards owned by the esteemed Symington port family, this is a very modern, organic red wine from four port grapes. Extremely well made, with accessible, lushly sweet black fruits and a good mineral acidity, all delivered with restrained, well-defined power. Pair with all red, rare meats. £9.99, Waitrose

Bargain basement

Leopards Leap Shiraz Viognier

It is sometimes tricky to distinguish good from bad among the multitude of branded New World wines crowding supermarket shelves, but occasionally you can be rewarded with a good-value South African such as this. Brimming with spicy red fruits, the butch Shiraz tempered by floral Viognier, it is the ideal bottle for moussaka or lasagne. £5.78, Asda
