Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Bodega Colome – Torrontes 2012

Torrontes grapes from what is claimed to be the highest-altitude vineyard in the world, as well as the oldest in Argentina, create a wine which is fabulously floral and intensely citric on the nose with dry, fresh, tropical-fruit flavours on the palate. Complex, distinctive and immensely appealing. Lightly spiced Asian fish dishes are in order. £10.50, winedirect.co.uk; £9, thefinewinecompany.co.uk

Midweek meal

Anciano Gran Reserva Tempranillo Valdepenes 2004

Terrific value for a midweek wine – real mature depth from oak maturing of the Tempranillo grapes, grown under the hot sun of central Spain. Well balanced between distinctive baked fruits, chewy tannins and yet retaining some vibrancy on the palate. Good with pasta and meat sauces or a simple steak. £8.99, Waitrose

Bargain basement

Cotes de Provence

Not much to go on with the label –a typical blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault and it is from somewhere in Provence, in a characteristically shaped bottle. But who cares when it is this good – a lovely orange-pink colour, refreshing, slightly spicy, full of fruit flavours. A perfect rosé for picnics. £5.99 Aldi
