From Pipers Brook in the Tamar Valley of northern Tasmania, this is a raspberry-scented, spicy pinot noir with riper, richer, more concentrated strawberry and cherry fruit flavours than I've seen before from this brand. A red for mushroom-based pasta and pizza, or, more daringly, barbecued salmon.

The sea air is good for us all, but in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the Atlantic lends a special iodiney fragrance and tang to the sherry. With a promotional £1 or so lopped off at the moment, it's well worth investing in this pale, dry example from Hidalgo. Keep in the fridge as an appetite-whetter for picnics and al fresco summer lunches.

Scented with the fresh-cut grass and elderflower fragrance of the sauvignon grape, this is a juicily ripe, nettley dry white from the high Spanish tablelands of Rueda. A lemon citrus zing adds freshness and balance. A dry white for drinking on its own, with salad Niçoise or with grilled or steamed white fish.
