Dear truffler: Sushi for brekkie? No thanks!
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Of all the suggestions for eating and drinking while watching World Cup matches – sushi for brekkie? No thanks – the most appetising is Graig Farm Organics' breakfast box. They'll deliver box combinations of sausages, organic eggs, bread, baked beans, tomatoes, ketchup and more. The bacon tastes like bacon used to – it doesn't ooze white goo – and coffee, marmalade, jam, muesli and even smoked salmon can be included. Booze, too. Delivery is free for orders over £45. Ring 01597 851655 or visit www.graigfarm.co.uk. Order a few days in advance.

You'll need cable TV to catch the man tipped to be the TV chef of the future. Giorgio Locatelli's 15-part series begins tomorrow at 3.30pm and 6.30pm on UK Food. Promising chargrilled mackerel with herb crust and pumpkin tart with bitter chocolate sauce, it's one of those rare cookery series that sounds original and tempting. The same channel has designated Monday and Tuesday "Delia Day" (surely that's two days?) for repeats of her Summer Collection series.
We spend our money buying food in supermarket chains, and our free time at food festivals. With the literati out of the way, Hay-on-Wye has a nourishing one-day event on Saturday 29 June. It started last year when the Brecon Beacons National Park, where most exhibiting producers come from, was closed, and was such a success it's being repeated. Admission free.
Strawberries are centre stage at the Hamble Valley Food & Drink Festival from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June. But crabs, lobsters, cherries, cheeses, flour from a working windmill, and wine get a look in. Over the weekend there's a farmers' market, tastings, outdoor theatre events, river trips, and a tour of Victorian strawberry fields. Information www.hamblevalley.com; festival programmes from 023 8068 8404.
Pembrokeshire Fish Week from Saturday 29 until Sunday 7 July is majoring on mackerel. On that first Saturday there are fishy goings on at Milford Marina, and for the rest of the week they are taking the piscine theme all round the Pembrokeshire coast. Ring 01437 776168 or visit www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk.
