Bites: Now we all want a Slumdog's dinner

It seems we can't get enough of India right now. In the same week that Slumdog Millionaire swept the board at this year's Oscars, a new wave of eateries are opening their doors. First up is Dockmasters House in Canary Wharf (pictured). Situated in a listed Georgian building, it promises Indian fine dining with a twist. Highlights include chettinad breast of guinea fowl with lemon rice and stuffed mussallam of poussin.

Over in Redhill in Surrey, the Indian Restaurants Group has ventured out of the capital with the opening of the third branch of Mela, which offers rustic Indian cuisine. For authentic Mumbai cooking there's the recently opened Trishna in London's Marylebone, where the pepper crab signature dish is said to be well worth dropping in for. And after a five-month refurbishment, the grand old man of London's curry houses, Kensington's Bombay Brasserie, has reopened, boasting an open-plan kitchen in the middle of the restaurant so diners can see the chefs work their magic.
