From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On October 10, celebrity lifestyle how-to guru Martha Stewart previewed her new cookie iPad app to be released on November 1, according to iPad.net.

The announcement by Stewart took place at her Cookies & Milk event during New York City Food & Wine Festival days after other free foodie iPad apps were released by gastronomy media giants like Food & Wine magazine (October 7) and the online revival of Gourmet Live (updated on October 6).

At the cookie event food news blog Eater noted 18 different cookie stations and declared the yummiest: "Baked's salt & pepper sandwich cookie, Mad Mac NYC's raspberry macaron and, yes, Martha Stewart's own glazed lemon cookies."

Nicholas Callaway, the application creator, told website Slashfood the new app is "like a cookie runway; we're treating cookies like high-fashion models. It's got a great search-and-shuffle function."

Other highlights include "a roulette-wheel-style cookie-recipe finder that lets users choose by ingredient, type, flavor or cooking tool." There is also a direct link to department store Macy's online in the event your kitchen is not stocked with the requisite tools.

Unfortunately your Demy ($199/€143), the world's first kitchen-safe digital recipe reader (http://www.mydemy.com/), doesn't install apps to save you a step from transferring your new favorite recipes. Until such a function is created, all the apps are available via iTunes.

Pricing for Martha Stewart's untitled cookie app has not yet been released.
