From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. In the event of an apocalypse, bulk-food retailer Costco has you and your family covered - for a year at least.

The chain store has rolled out an apocalypse survival food kit on their online store and you can keep yourself and your family well-fed, for one whole year, for the bargain price of £4,330 ($5,999).

Or if that price seems a bit high, even in the face of impending doom, Costco has also created single-person mega-packs, that will set you back just £721 ($999).

The prices are hard to beat considering the Nutristore One-year Premium Food Kit comes with a whopping 36,000 servings and a shelf-life of 25 years for some of the items.

And you won’t have to worry about your loved ones lacking enough nutrition - as the premium food kit comes packed with grains, fruits, vegetables, proteins, dairy and more, according to Costco’s website.

The kit is also capable of feeding everyone 2,000 calories a day - which means your family will likely be quite fit in the event of an emergency.

If you are worried you’ll get tired of eating the same thing every day, the good news is there is plenty of variety in the food kit.

In addition to freeze-dried onions and strawberries, instant black beans and dehydrated carrots will also be on the menu.

So if you think the premium meal-kit may be a good idea for you and your family, Costco promises to deliver all 36,000 servings “discreetly for privacy in shipping.”

Now you can “Enjoy the comfort in knowing you have the essential foods your family will need to survive an emergency or natural disaster,” according to Costco - which sounds comforting and scary at the same time.

And the best part - the food kit already has its first five-star rating.
