From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Ahead of the festive period, Costa Coffee is launching a new range of limited edition hot drinks containing some of the nation’s favourite chocolate treats.

As well as a Terry’s Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate, an After Eight® Hot Chocolate and a Quality Street Purple One® Latte are also on the menu.

The Terry’s Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate will be infused with orange syrup and will be topped with cream and sparkle sprinkles, while the After Eight Version contains peppermint syrup and has chocolate flaked on top of the cream.

The festive version of Costa’s Latte will have a rich caramel chocolate sauce and roasted hazelnut syrup added, and be drizzled with caramel chocolate sauce to mimic the taste of the purple Quality Street.

All three of the new drinks will be served with one of chocolates they’re inspired by on the side.

The new Terry’s Hot Chocolate drink follows the launch of a hugely successful Terry’s Chocolate Orange flavoured muffin last year.

Returning due to popular demand from the festive drinks menus of previous years are both the Irish Velvet and Black Forest Chocolate Frostino, as well the Hot Spiced Apple.

The new drinks will be available in store and from Costa Express machines at Shell petrol stations nationwide from Tuesday 3 November.

Last month, Costa Coffee said 1,650 jobs were at risk in its stores, as it sought to cut costs amid continued uncertainty over recovering trade after the coronavirus pandemic.

The coffee shop chain closed nearly all 2,700 of its UK stores for six weeks during the pandemic and while 2,400 have re-opened, business has been slow to return in some areas.
