Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. You almost have to wonder how no one came up with them earlier, but chocolate crumpets are now a thing - and judging by the reaction they’ve received, they’re set to revolutionise breakfasts.
Chocolate spread on normal crumpets is great, but imagine chocolate on a chocolate crumpet? Or peanut butter! And banana!
Or just a warm chocolate crumpet smothered in beautiful melting butter (excuse us while we wipe the drool from our chins). It’s exciting stuff.
Knead bakery in Stoke Newington, North London, has created the ingenious breakfast item and they’re getting a lot of love on Instagram.
Despite having sold the crumpets for the past year, it’s only thanks to a mention on the BBC Good Food website that the ingenious breakfast treats have been brought to wider public attention.
Made with 70 per cent chocolate, Good Food say the crumpets have a “rich and deep” flavour, and a “slightly gooey” texture when heated.
We’re imagining the lovechild of a brownie and a pancake.
The artisan bakery sells an array of different crumpet types - from cinnamon and raisin to lemon and poppyseed.
The crumpets are stocked in Selfridges’ food hall and at Knead bakery’s stall in Broadway Market, Hackney.
We reckon it’s only a matter of time before chocolate crumpets hit the mainstream and are stocked in supermarkets up and down the UK - they could be a staple breakfast item before we know it.
