Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Put your avocado toast down because finally someone has invented a confectionery mash-up you never knew you needed.

That’s right, avocado chocolate is now officially a thing.

The bar – which costs $10 a pop – is the brainchild of trendy LA-based chocolatier Compartes.

Masterminds of highly Instagrammable chocolate bars in geometric, artisanal shapes, Compartes caused a riot last year with their Rosé flavoured bar.

But this time round they’re tapping into our obsession with all things avocado to create the first chocolate bar of its kind.

Coloured with a light green hue, it’s made entirely from creamy white chocolate and fresh California avocados. All of which, Compartes insist are locally sourced from farmer’s markets to ensure they’re both organic and sustainable.

Plus, it’s got to be healthier than your average chocolate bar, right?

After all, a regular diet of healthy fats like those found in avocados is packed full of benefits – think radiant skin, better brain function and lower cholesterol levels. You don’t need to tell us twice.

Having risen from the depths of Seventies dinner-party showpiece, the avocado boom doesn’t seem to be subsiding and this latest invention is just one in a long line of avo-themed creations.

We’ve seen avocado spread, beer and even five-course avocado menus. Without doubt, it’s gone above and beyond any other ingredient out there.
