From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

British plus-size model Felicity Hayward has hit back at bodyshamers who mocked her curvy frame while she was sunbathing at the beach.

Founder of Self Love Brings Beauty - an inclusive digital movement focused on self-love - 29-year-old Hayward is well known for being a body positive campaigner.

But it seems that even Hayward, who has modelled for the likes of L’Oreal, Missguided, I-D and Vogue is still subjected to the small-minded opinions of bodyshamers.

Posting on Instagram, Hayward revealed that she was recently mocked by two beachgoers while she was sunbathing on holiday, but her response – which included a “banging” photo of herself wearing a thong bikini – was the perfect comeback.

“To the couple sitting on the beach making fun, laughing and taking photos of me and my friends enjoying our holiday in lil bikinis, I will stand in front of you for 15 mins and take this banging photo because my body is just as worthy as yours sweetie,” she wrote.

“Just because you have a toned gym bod doesn’t mean you are worthy of more respect.

“Comparison is the stealer of joy, so I’m gonna live my best life just like this and you can carry on dealing with your own insecurities #SelfLoveBringsBeauty.”

The stunning image has received more than 16,000 likes since posting while her fans came out in force with messages of love and support.

“Flaunt those curves babe, it's a shame people don't realise that every body is beautiful,” one person commented.

Another added: “Most people must lead such boring lives that they have to try and ridicule others for a sense of entertainment – makes you feel sorry for them!

“You make me believe that I could rock a thong bikini. Love it.”

Someone else agreed, writing: “I love this picture and all the confidence you exude!”
