Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.High-fashion designers' one-of-a-kind creations get a lot more wear in music videos these days, mainly thanks to Lady Gaga. But other stars seem to be following suit, with Beyoncé rocking two couture dresses as well as five ready-to-wear designer outfits in the video to "Run the World," which premiered on US television May 18.
The eagle-eyed Red Carpet Fashion Awards blog had spotted a Givenchy spring 2011 couture gown on a blurry paparazzi shot of Beyoncé shooting the video in the desert back in April and can now confirm six other designer looks from the clip.
Starting off, the singer is seen waving her flag sporting a red-and-gold embroidered Alexander McQueen dress from fall/winter 2010 and thigh-high boots from the same collection. For a dance routine in the sand, she dons a black fringed Norma Kamali outfit, followed by said Givenchy number for an impressive scene depicting the star with two larger-than-life hyenas.
During a warrior-inspired shot where Beyoncé looks ready to wage war on the world, she is wearing a black cut-out dress shown at Jean Paul Gaultier's spring couture show.
A very short Gareth Pugh dress, glittering in golden sequins, and two gowns by Emilio Pucci (one of the singer's current favorites; she also wore the label to the Met Ball) - one lime green with a plunging neckline, and another in emerald green with an asymmetrical cut - complete the high-fashion showcase.
