From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. After months of anticipation and controversy, Donald and Melania Trump have officially touched down in the UK for the presidential state visit.

While the president has stayed true to his humdrum sartorial roots – his only outfit thus far has been a boxy navy suit paired with a cobalt blue tie – Melania’s fashion choices for the London trip have been far more eclectic.

For her departure from Washington DC on Sunday, the first lady paid homage to her destination by wearing a colourful Gucci shirt dress covered in prints depicting the British capital's landmarks.

When she arrived at London's Stansted airport on Monday morning, Melania stepped off the Air Force One jet sporting a navy skirt suit and a Burberry pussy-bow blouse.

Melania changed into her third ensemble for the day ahead of visiting Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen alongside her husband, choosing a white two-piece suit with a navy trim on the collar and belt. Marking the sense of occasion, she accessorised the look with a wide-brimmed boater hat.

But the most notable ensemble of day one came via the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace, for which Melania wore a custom Dior haute couture dress complete with a jagged neckline and a contemporary mesh panel.
