Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It's hard to imagine the contemporary fashion landscape without the humble jean. When, in 1873, 501s were created for workers, nobody knew the cultural phenomenon the garment would become.

20th May is 501 Day, the annual celebration of the original blue jean. To to mark the occasion Levi’s are launching a summer of collaboration - and you can join in this weekend by celebrating your own personal style for 501 Day.

In honour of the landmark anniversary and the integral role Levi’s has played in fashion history, we asked a selection of some of the capital’s most style savvy people to share their most memorable fashion moments, from their favourite ever item of clothing to how they best like to style their own 501s.

For both Donya Campbell – the super-stylish, multihyphenate whose work spans designing, styling and modelling - and Natalie Salmon, ES Magazine’s social media editor, music is an integral part of their favourite jeans memories. Meanwhile, The Independent’s lifestyle writer Olivia Petter and ultra cool stylist and influencer Martell Campbell recall their biggest fashion mistakes. And Jenny Kennedy, senior fashion editor at ES Magazine, remembers how she used to try to emulate her heroine.

Make sure to join the birthday celebrations this weekend and make more style memories. From now until 23 May, head the Regent Street store to get experimental in the Creative Labs studio where, from patches and pins to stripes and quilting, there’s a whole host of elevated customisation options that are sure to add to your sartorial arsenal.
