Fashion label The Vampire’s Wife has released a gothic, Victoriana collection with high street retailer H&M, a clothing line developed and created during the coronavirus pandemic.

Founded by model Susie Cave in 2014, The Vampire’s Wife is known for its ethereal, flowing garments, with designs worn by stars including Tenet’s Elizabeth Debicki, How I Met Your Mother star Cristin Milioti and actor Greta Bellamacina.

For its partnership with H&M, which is available to purchase in stores and online at HM.com from 22 October, The Vampire’s Wife designed a range of whimsical pieces including a high-neck, black velvet knee-length dress with blouson sleeves, a 1970s-style mini dress with a puritan collar and a silvery lace cape – a particular favourite of Cave’s.

Cave said that seeing her partnership with H&M come to life was “like an act of magic”.

“Such grand names have gone before me!” the fashion designer told British Vogue.

“Karl Lagerfeld and Versace... but really it was the idea that my dresses could be available to everyone that was so very exciting.”

The collaborative range between The Vampire’s Wife and H&M was created over Zoom, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cave said that H&M “took great pains to find the very essence of what The Vampire’s Wife is about”, ensuring that they created pieces to her “exact specifications”.

“To design a dress at The Vampire’s Wife and get it through to the finish line is extremely difficult, miraculous really, as we are a small company. H&M is extraordinarily powerful in that respect,” she said.

All of the garments in the clothing range are made from recycled materials, H&M outlined in a press release for the launch of the collection.

“The Vampire’s Wife is known for flattering silhouettes, glamorous details and an unbridled celebration of women and the female form,” the retailer stated.

“The collection is progressive in both attitude and fabrication,” H&M said, adding that the collaboration with The Vampire’s Wife can be described as “bold and feminine”.

While Cave admitted that her partnership with H&M could be seen as fairly spooky in nature, given the aesthetic of the collection and the fact it is being launched just over a week before Halloween, the fashion designer said that she would personally wear clothing from the range at any time of the year.

“It’s exciting to have the power of such a brand behind me,” Cave said.
