Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.According to UK retailer Debenhams, golden girls Kate and Pippa Middleton's glowing complexions caused English roses all over the country to invest in self-tanning products.
Numerous British media are reporting on what has been dubbed the "Middletan effect," which saw sales of fake bake products soar by more than 200 percent on the afternoon of the royal wedding on April 29 in comparison to the same day last year.
Since, Debenhams staff say they have been flooded with queries as to how to achieve the royal tan. "You simply can't underestimate the impact that Kate and Pippa will have on the beauty industry," Debenhams beauty director Sara Stern said in a statement. "Already streams of wannabe princesses have been flooding into our stores looking to achieve their healthy, groomed look.
"In particular, Kate's more subtle shade of tan is perfect for big occasions such as weddings. A light tan to complement your skin tone is much more appropriate than the deeper, more noticeable shades used on a night out."
The department store's blog has posted a recommendation of products that will serve you well when trying to look like you just came back from your Seychelles honeymoon: the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse, a "super light formula that glides on to give all types of skin a gorgeous glow," Fake Bake's Self Tanning Lotion, "an easy way to apply fake tan for an instant glow," and Lancome's Flash Bronzer Leg Gel, "a tinted gel-cream that adds the perfect shimmer for sexy summer legs."
All products are also available through the international beauty store chain Sephora.
