Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

As much as it pains us to put it down in words, the end of summer is upon us; the nights are beginning to creep in and the autumn/winter collections are being peppered across shop floors.

While temperatures in the UK persist in the balmy mid-20s and many of us are still waiting to jet off on holiday, it’s already proving a tricky task to find any summer clothes in the shops.

You see, in the fashion world, August is considered to mark the onset of Autumn, so while we’re still getting to grips with warm-weather dressing, our favourite stores are already preparing for the crunchy-leaved months ahead.

The good news is that there are still plenty of summer-worthy options online, where seasonal style trends exist far beyond the tight restrictions imposed on the high street.

There is still time yet to enjoy the last vestiges of summer and clad yourself in floral floaty dresses and slingback shoes.

With the shift in seasons in mind, this month we recommend investing in pieces that will keep you cool while the warm weather continues but can also be layered and restyled in the future.

Inspired by the spring/summer 2019 catwalk designs of Burberry and Balmain, consider items in timeless shades like beige that can be paired with acid brights now and warm tones come autumn.

Midi dresses in statement prints like those seen on the runway at Erdem will also prove a wise investment as they can be worn with chunky sandals now and black, block-heeled boots when temperatures start to drop.

To help make getting dressed in the coming weeks that much easier, we’ve scoured our favourite stores to find the best new pieces to complete your end-of-summer wardrobe.
