Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If your pricey addiction to designer sportswear is spiralling out of control, fear not. Help is now at hand thanks to Topman which, having recently launched its first ever sportswear brand – think fashionable, functional and affordable – has now collaborated with the Danish designer Astrid Andersen.
Known for her luxury take on street and sport style, Andersen graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2010, and is now one of the rising stars at London Collections: Men – the capital’s biannual menswear shows. Later this month, she will showcase her vision for spring/summer 2015, the third time she will do so as part of the Topman-sponsored Newgen Men initiative.
Thanks to this established relationship, designing a small collection for the high-street giant seems a natural progression. Available next Thursday at its Oxford Street flagship store and online, you will find a mostly monochromatic palate interspersed with an extremely eye-catching dollop of carnation pink.
Indeed, the most striking garment in this 17-piece collection is a crushed velvet oversized tracksuit in this vibrant hue. Not normally something you’d find on the rails at Topman, and perhaps only for the bravest of shoppers, this has all the potential for a fashion sensory overload. Of course, you’ll still find the oversized vests, T-shirts and shorts, which we have come to expect from this talented Dane.
The photographic campaign to accompany the collection features the New York-based hip hop artist A$AP Ferg, whose music influences Andersen’s work; he also has the energy and gumption to carry off this whole collection with aplomb – pink crushed velvet and all.
This is a bold take on men’s sportswear, with a customer-friendly price tag to boot.
