From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Stella McCartney and Hunter have collaborated to launch what they're calling "probably the world’s most sustainable wellington boot".

The new rubber boot is entirely vegan and has been made using sustainably-sourced natural rubber along with a material called Yulex™, which is a natural rubber harvested from rubber trees.

The rubber used in the boot has been sourced from sustainably-managed, certified forests in Guatemala, which Stella McCartney says guarantees that “no rainforests were culled to farm the trees used and protecting the wellbeing of workers and local communities”.

The stretch sock inside the boot is the part made from Yulex™, which is used to replace traditional neoprene. The brands claim that the material generates 80 per cent less climate-altering carbon dioxide but is just as almost identical to neoprene in terms of its strength and elasticity.

As for the design itself, the short wellington boots comes in black, teal and khaki and feature a chunky sole. The boots also have the word "STELLA" on the front where the Hunter logo is usually found. They are priced at £320 each.

The boots were first showcased on the runway in Paris as part of Stella McCartney’s autumn/winter 2019 collection.

Stella McCartney is renowned for its commitment to sustainability.

In July, the luxury label released the world’s first recyclable hoodie in collaboration with Adidas and in June 2018, it opened a new shop in central London that claimed to have the “cleanest air” in the city.

Stella McCartney also cast environmental activists from the group Extinction Rebellion in one of its recent campaigns.
